Song Story: Over the past few years, we’ve heard story after story about “Christians” hating other people and claiming to represent Jesus. As I’ve studied the life of Jesus, I don’t see hate at all. In fact, hatred is the antithesis of who Jesus is. Jesus loves people. Even people that are involved in things he doesn’t agree with. I love the story in John 8. Jesus witnessed a woman caught in the act of adultery. The Pharisees (teachers of religious law) dragged the woman out into the street in front of a crowd, wanting her to be stoned for the sin she committed. Jesus’ response is amazing: “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, until only Jesus and the woman were left. Then Jesus turns to the woman and says “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” the woman says. And Jesus says, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”<\/p>\n
Everyone is looking for love and no one loves as extravagantly as Jesus. We don’t win people over with judgment; we win them over just like Jesus did in this story, with love and grace. Haven’t you been drawn to Jesus because He loved you? That’s how other people are drawn to Him too.<\/p>\n
This song is not meant to stir up controversy, even though it might. I believe it is God’s heart to inspire love. Jesus kind of love. It’s not meant to divide Christians who agree or disagree. I hope that it reminds us that we’re all on the same team and we’re after the same goal: to see people encounter Jesus. So lets love like Jesus loves.<\/p>\n
